500 Year Journey of a Plastic Bottle

client: Mercedes-Benz Türk
project name: 500 year Journey of a Plastic Bottle
project year: 2020
location: Mercedes-Benz Türk Hoşdere Otobüs Fabrikası
design and implementation: RokaLab
The social media wall designed and implemented by Roka to support Mercedes-Benz Türk’s, “Plastic-free Mercedes-Benz Türk” project welcomes employees at a designated area at the cafeteria exit with a giant PET bottle. The design process took place simultaneously with our ‘Environment Room’ project. Employees can have a photograph that looks like they are standing in a giant PET bottle after visiting the Environment Room on their way to the cafeteria.
Launched by our Environment unit along with a group of volunteers, the Plastic-free Mercedes-Benz Türk project encourages employees to use their own water bottles and cups for liquid consumption while removing plastic cups throughout the company. Roka designed a wall that would interact with social media posts in support of the project. Those visiting this space can have their photographs taken looking like they were trapped inside a plastic bottle, which aims to draw attention to the start of the plastic bottle’s 500-year long journey in nature once discarded. The project aims at raising awareness of the reality that plastic products will exist in nature for 500 years before they deteriorate entirely in a way that is easy to remember, and will; leverage social media to increase its impact by uploading captioned photographs featuring hashtags.
The Mercedes-Benz Türk environment department aims to raise awareness about and deepen the understanding of waste among employees, which they then can use both in and outside of the workplace and spread this awareness to the people around them.
